Overview

We all like to be ALONE from time to time, SOLITUDE provides us with space and time to stop and think, to CONTEMPLATE and ASSESS our life's current direction. THE HERMIT speaks of this need to inwardly RETREAT, a quiet time of INTROSPECTION is usually forthcoming when this card appears in a reading. He chooses ISOLATION and WITHDRAWAL to THINK DEEPLY about his next step on the road of life, and his appearance in a reading counsels us to do the same. There is a whole LEARNING aspect to this card too, the seeking of WISDOM and KNOWLEDGE, he may be out in the cold, with his lantern and his staff, braving the elements in pursuit of SPIRITUAL ENLIGHTENMENT, but he chooses to be alone, to wander into the wilderness, and away from the crowds. He will return when he has done with the SOUL-SEARCHING.
