Tarot Cards We Hope To Avoid In A Reading.

Introduction

Tarot Cards require a great deal of interpretation and the overall meaning from a reading can differ greatly depending on the combination of the cards, and the direction they are facing. With that in mind, there are some negative tarot cards that it is better to hope we avoid.

Death

It’s not surprising that clients would be concerned about getting one of the darker tarot cards. This card (perhaps more so than any of the others) is the one that people perhaps fear the most. Tarot cards can have an array of meanings and interpretations but the most common meaning associated with the death card is death. This could refer to an actual physical death but even when it doesn’t, it can still be a firm warning of another form of death or ending: the death of our belief system, the death of our spirituality or even an emotional death. There is rarely an easy way to interpret this card and even the most positive interpretations signify that something is rapidly coming to an end.

The Devil

When it comes to negative tarot cards, the Devil is another good example of one that most people hope to avoid. It can denote an unhealthy attachment to materialism (particularly the destructive desire to pursue materialist goals), addictions (toxic people, substance abuse, gambling, compulsive lying, egotism), and detachment. Many interpret the meaning of this tarot card’s energy as being related to an inescapable situation, being confined by our own weaknesses.. This would more often than not be an unpleasant situation such as being stuck in a toxic unemployment or finding ourself involved in unhealthy immoral acts with no way out. It’s certainly not one of the best tarot cards we could draw in a reading.

The Hierophant

Another of the cards we’re best to avoid completely if possible is the Hierophant. This card represents our own desperation and the lengths we’re willing to go to in order to achieve our goals. On the surface, this may seem like a positive card but it actually highlights a weakness. Many interpret this card as representing our willingness to sell our soul in order to feel a small sense of security or safety. Many people who are lost will reach out and grab any opportunity they can take, no matter how dark or immoral it may be. This card can suggest that we are one of these people.

The Hanged Man

When it comes to tarot reading cards with a dark image, few compare to the Hanged Man. This card is often misunderstood as representing death but when we look at the image and its meaning in a more in-depth manner, we find what it truly represents. Where the death represents death and the ten of swords represents betrayal, the Hanged Man represents the actual act of people turning on us. It doesn’t necessarily point to betrayal but rather that our side is no longer the right option for others. It could be that new information has come to light or that our own actions have turned them against us.

Sword Suit

There are varying sword cards we could encounter in a reading. For example, the ten of swords usually depicts a dead man or woman lying face down with ten swords stuck into their back. This particular sword card usually has a pretty basic meaning: betrayal, which is represented by the swords in the back. (being stabbed in the back). However, there are far deeper meanings to this card than just plain old betrayal. It can be representative of a situation of great oppression, conflict . In many cases, the action it is predicting can be extremely destructive: self-destructive or otherwise.

Two Of Swords

Another good example would be the two of swords tarot card. This card focuses more on our own mental health and represents the shutting down of our emotional state. There are of course many interpretations and it can combine with other cards. The image usually depicts a man or woman who is blindfolded, holding up two swords like a barrier, to try and defend themselves - but without being able to see the danger, they don’t know how to defend themselves. That is why this card often highlights our lack of awareness regarding the approaching threat.

Nine Of Swords

This card is another good example, Once again the card talks of our own mental state, and dispicts an inconsolable figure sat crying on their bed. There are of course many interpretations and it can combine with other cards., but the most common is called 'the dark night of the soul' and not without good reason. Whatever terrors plague us in the dead of night are represented in this card. A high swords corresponds with a high level of stress and anxiety, this card really is one of the worst.
