The Crow Moon

The March Full Moon is particularly special because it reaches its peak on the same day as the spring equinox, on March 20, 2019. The last time the full Moon and the spring equinox coincided this closely (4 hours apart) was in March 2000, but the last time they occurred on the same date was on March 20, 1981!

We have only just witnessed the Super Snow Moon light up the February skies, a month on from January’s Super Blood Wolf Moon. Another dazzling bright full moon is in store on the night of 20 March, with this Super Crow Moon appearing larger and more brilliant in the night sky.

January’s supermoon was much talked about because of its coincidence with a total lunar eclipse, which turned the moon a spooky shade of red.

February’s offering was slightly less exciting (the moon remained its standard white), but there was still reason to look up – it was the ‘largest’ supermoon of 2019.

March’s full moon might not be quite as intense as that of February, but it will still appear to be larger and brighter in the night sky. The Full Moon of March, the Crow Moon is also known as the Storm Moon, Worm Moon, Seed Moon, and Moon of Great Winds by those who follow the earth religions.

When we work with the energy gifted with this full moon we can gain insight where we may have become distracted or lost our way.

This Full Moon kicks off a brand new season and falls on the same day as the Vernal Equinox, which is the “official” start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.

The dark and the light get equal time. Winter is behind us, at least technically—it might still be very cold where you are! This is also the beginning of the Zodiac year, as the Sun moves into Aries.

There is the energy of beginnings, of breaking with the past, of putting the focus on new stories, new inspirations, and new visions. The observance of Ostara comes right after this Full Moon.

Ostara is the Pagan sabbat that corresponds to the earth waking up, to new life, rebirth, returns, and the light.
